7/4/2004 - BMG wants to release low cost CDs.
The low cost version of the forthcoming albums will look like the CD-R Promos you have seen very often on eBay or through special CD-Dealers. The CDs look like they are self made CD-Rs with a printing on the silver side. Maarten Steinkamp, the BMG-Manager from Germany said, this will be our "Anti_Piracy-CD".
There are now three versions of the CD you can buy. The low cost (9.99€), the normal (12.€) and the luxury version (17.99€) which includes a DVD with extras of the artist.
The prices will be reduced from min. 16.99€ to 12.99€.
Universal was trying a similar concept. They reduced the price from the normal sales price down to 12.98 USD. But it doesn't make any noticeable difference. The internet piracy is booming.
So collectors now have to buy three CDs instead of only one. It becomes your decision on what you wish to collect.
